Two tests of immediate memory, the Benton Visual Retention Test and the Digit Span subtest of the WAIS, correlated significantly with a short-term task of memory. It was reasoned that short-term memory such as was measured by the task utilized here is frequently a point of considerable concern in cases of brain pathology. Findings suggest that the Digit Span subtest and the Benton are capable of assessing this type of functioning.
