38 5s viewed tachistoscopically random polygons of 3, 4, 6, 8, 11, 16, and 24 sides for 1, .1, and .01 sec. The judged number of sides of polygons with 6, 8, 11, 16, and 24 sides was consistently underestimated. The degree of underestimation increased with increasing stimulus complexity and decreasing exposure time.
