Abstract
100 male university Ss were administered a 30-item "retentive personality scale" (RPS) immediately after which they gave time estimates (to the nearest second) of how long it took them to complete the scale. On the basis of a short 10-item content validated "anality" sub-scale, high retentive personalities were expected to tend to overestimate (or show less tendency to underestimate) this duration in comparison with low retentive personalities. This expectation was confirmed by the present study and is in line with previous work.
