On the basis of their experiences in more than 35 courses, the authors present recommenda tions for the use of cooperative learning with preservice teachers. Research on the use of cooperative learning in higher education is briefly outlined. Nine cooperative learning strategies are described, and examples of topics and implementation procedures are dis cussed. Results of a survey of preservice students' attitudes toward cooperative learning are presented, including representative student comments from questionnaires and interviews.
