The preoccupation with "means" has prevented educators — particularly edu cational leaders — from dealing with the "ends" of schooling practices. The re conceptualist call for future leaders, argues Joseph, is one that requires ad ministrators to be more than mere in stitutional representatives. Instead, they must have an allegiance to the profes sion, the public good, and social meliorism within the context of profes sional study.
