Abstract
Current national concern for science education is analyzed by Yager and Lunetta. Activities following the crisis of 1976 are reviewed as explanations for issues now on the national agenda. Reversals caused by the Reagan Presi dency and corresponding changes in science education perspectives are noted. Recent commission reports, especially of the National Science Board, are related to need areas identified by science educators late in 1980 and 1981. In response, specific new foci for science teacher education are offered.
