Abstract
This article describes the experiences of the California Consortium on the Begin ning Years of Teaching in developing and seeking implementation of an intern ship/residency model of teacher educa tion. Successful efforts to initiate the model in one setting are described and the difficulties that prevented its imple mentation elsewhere are traced.
