The authors identify a set of principles to guide the planning and implementation of the professional studies component of a teacher preparation program. Concepts around which statements of principles are based include "sensitive command of a broad teaching repertoire" and "en gagement in inquiry on teaching effec tiveness." Efforts to implement a planned program based on the stated principles are also described.
