The growth and development of the Institute of Child Guidance and Development, a university-affiliated unit, is traced from its establishment in 1968. As well as describing its teaching and research activities, the interrelationship of the institute's influence on community educational needs and practice and the influence of those needs and practices on the institute's functions are examined.
