Abstract
This paper elaborates on the rationale expressed by the author earlier (Fisher 1980) and describes the development of a compensatory training program for disabled readers. The program is data based and aimed at compensating for dysfunctional peripheral retinal processes, at enhancing left-to-right sequencing, and at optimizing sight word skills to reacquaint the disabled reader with text. The method is described, and two sets of data are presented for successive stages in the development of a promising, viable, and efficient approach to reading instruction for the targeted disabled readers.
