Two methods, summated ratings and pair com-parisons, were used to assess the hyperkinesis of elementary school aged children. The results revealed that ratings were an internally con-sistent and reliable normative technique for measuring hyperkinesis. In contrast, pair com-parisons provided a method for specifying, on an individual basis, the relative importance of each subcategory which comprised the overall estimate of hyperkinesis.
