Abstract
This article examines the structure and psychological effects of a three-part primal vision monomyth. This monomyth is a common pattern at the heart of many of the world’s creation stories. The primal vision paints a vivid picture of cosmic harmony, gives an account as to why this original harmony was disrupted, and describes a concrete path toward the restoration of the original universal order. The article then explores the principal psychological effects of the primal vision monomyth on those who actively participate in it. The article concludes with a comparative analysis of modern versus pre-modern approaches to myth and then provides suggestions for how modern psychologists might use the primal vision structure in their own work.
