Abstract
In recent years, drug abuse and trafficking in Kashmir have become a major issue. Factors like mental health issues, unemployment, and lack of opportunities for the youth have significantly contributed to this growing problem. The present study examines drug-related cases reported from the year 2018 to 2022 focusing on six commonly abused drugs that include benzodiazepines, poppy, cannabis, heroin, codeine, and tramadol. The report shows a significant increase in the prevalence of the number of drug cases, with cannabis and poppy-based drugs being the most widely smuggled. This study will be of great significance to policymakers, as it provides a comprehensive understanding of the situation, guiding resource allocation to enhance efficiency. By identifying specific regional problems authorities will be better equipped to target these with focussed law enforcement and public health interventions, making the fight against drug abuse and trafficking more effective.
