Abstract
Based on the previous published works in fuzzy reliability analysis method, this article aims to develop a fuzzy robust optimal design methodology for FRP laminates. Both the probability and the fuzzy factors are considered in the optimal design. By considering the fuzziness of the constraint condition, a fuzzy reliability design model is first established. Using the model as a base and taking into account the possible variations in fiber angle and ply thickness, a fuzzy robust design method is developed. The key point in the robust design is to obtain a stable design solution by reducing the influence of the variations in design variables on the structure performance. Examples are worked out to demonstrate the applicability and the necessity of the method.
