Abstract
Ridge gourd/phenolic and glass/ridge gourd/phenolic hybrid composites were prepared using resol resin PF-108 as the matrix and the bilayered vegetable fabric ridge gourd as the reinforcement without and with alkali treatment and glass fabric as a co-reinforcement. The natural bilayer fabric of ridge gourd vegetable belonging to the Cucurbitaceae family was treated with 2% aqueous NaOH solution. The flexural strength and modulus of untreated and alkali treated ridge gourd fabric reinforced resol type (PF-108) composites and glass, ridge gourd fabric reinforced resol type (PF-108) hybrid composites in the absence and presence of two coupling agents were also determined.
