Aesthetics and rituals predominate in Urhobo culture and traditions. This article highlights the symbolism of what is generally regarded as beauty in Urhobo cultural life – Opha. The ritual process of the Opha is a rite of passage for young girls entering into adulthood. These processes have potential aesthetic format that are acceptable to the generality of Urhobo society. The article notes that the process over time has become a recognized cultural matrix as an institution for Africans.
