Abstract
Hazardous waste is seen as a major environmental issue by the American public, yet the social and environmental problems created by the high levels of generation and accumulation of this waste have not been seriously addressed. In this paper, it is shown that the relationship between social/ecological performance and the production of hazardous waste is a commons. A focus on this dynamic of the hazardous waste domain is essential to the elimination, reduction, and disposal of waste.
