Abstract
A questionnaire survey of all staff in a Midlands probation service was carried out in April 1995 to evaluate the extent to which the service's compulsory training programme and associated policy on HIV and AIDS enabled staff to feel confident abort staff employnment and service delivery issues relating to HIV and AIDS. There were clear indications that the training had increased staff awareness and understanding of HIV and AIDS and that the AIDS policy was generally regarded as relevant to the work of the service. Findings indicate a need for HIV/AIDS traimng and policies in probation services to increase confidence and influence practice.
