THERE is still considerable variation in gay sexual behaviour and evidence of continued high risk sex. A sample of 369 homosexually active men from differ ent areas of England were assessed on two oc casions, nine months apart, in 1988 and 1989, to examine the extent to which a number of social- psychological factors predicted high risk sexual be haviour over time. None of the variables were signifi cantly related to unprotected receptive anal sex. However, whether or not men were involved in a regular relationship with a partner was strongly as sociated with high risk behaviour. The implications of these results are that health education interven tions should focus on alerting all men to the circum stances in which high risk sex is more likely to happen.
