Abstract
The number of research-oriented articles found in major gifted publications is increasing. Readers unfamiliar with data-based research might have difficulty understanding, evaluating, and making use of the information found in such articles. A nine-point checklist is provided in this article as a guide for those who wish to critically evaluate research reports. The checklist includes questions to be answered by readers to improve their ability to understand and evaluate these components: soundness of theory base, statement of the problem, definition of the variables, description of the population, type of research design, reliability and validity of test instruments, consistency of results and conclusions, and recommendations for further research.
