This paper reports the design, implementation, and evaluation of a summer institute for training teachers in the education of the gifted. Based on the characteristic of gifted children to master content quickly and on the needs of the classroom teacher to provide differentiated instruction in the content areas, the institute emphasized the role of the content specialist. Although no control group was used, the highly significant gain from pre- to posttest suggests the institute curriculum was effective. Finally, additional evaluation data indicate the institute was well received by teachers.
