Abstract
Laughing can result from inner thoughts, not related to the present situation. It can be brought on by embarrassment, fear, mirth, joy or humor. People laugh, but not necessarily at you, or at anything funny. When a gifted child is around laughter, the motive for this behavior may have nothing to do with the gifted one, and need not be taken personally. Since thinking in depth is often done with a frowning look, cultivating smiles and humor are worthy pasttimes for gifted boys and girls.
So many reasons have been given for causing underachievement. More often than not it is accompanied by heartache for many. It seems curious to add that if fear of being laughed at is seen as one of the variables, an added avenue of exploration is present.
