Abstract
Why do children who have shown considerable promise as potentially gifted musicians not only sometimes fail to achieve the promise they have shown, but approach maturity showing little interest in music? An attempt to answer this question follows. Two responses are from eminent educators in the field of music. A third provides some insight into the question via a case history of a musically gifted child who at this moment has a brilliant future before him.
