Development of the computer-based analogue to the Mueller-Lyer apparatus was described along with the significance of this perceptual illusion figure to the history of psychometrics. Parallels between the computer generated graphics display field and the theoretical principles of structuring perceptual fields were discussed in light of epistemological and ontological problems related to the controversy between rational and neoromantic Dionysian modes of scientific thought.
