Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine whether subjects would change their persuasive strategies in a social problem-solving situation in response to (a) the status of the target persuadee, and (b) the ineffectiveness of the initial strategy generated. Subject groups included moderately mentally retarded adolescents, an MA-match group, and a CA-match group. A developmental trend was found such that mentally retarded subjects changed strategies least, followed by MA-match and CA-match subjects, respectively.
