Abstract
The value of recreation, or the wise and constructive use of leisure time, for retarded persons has been recognized in the professional literature for several years. The inclusion of recreation in the develop- ment of individualized education plans (IEPs), however, has not been fully realized. The authors encourage the inclusion of recreation in the IEPs of retarded students by selectively reviewing the literature. In addition, specific instructional concepts are presented.
