Abstract
Retarded children were taught to attend to classroom stimuli without manipulating the physical properties of the stimuli. Two techniques were used: individual reinforcement and reinforcement of a model in the presence of observing classmates. The control condition consisted of merely exhibiting the stimuli. Subjects receiving individual and model training exhibited significantly more attending responses than subjects receiving the control condition. No significant differences in performance were obtained between subjects who received individual and model training.
