The Role of the National Association for Retarded Children in Programs of Education and Training

Abstract

For nearly two decades local and state associations for retarded children have been a prime force in obtaining community support for educational programs serving mentally retarded children. This article presents a brief history of the National Association for Retarded Children and describes the basic philosophy which guides the organization in its activities. Its education policies and the ways they are implemented are discussed. Suggested objectives for long range efforts are listed in the form of “Aspirations for the Future.”
