Abstract
In this chapter the research design and sample are explained. The study is based on a survey which studied gender differences and similarities in political and business elites of twenty-seven industrial countries (Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Norway, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, United Kingdom and United States). These countries are all democracies, characterised by industrialisation and a developed education system. Details of the sample are summarised in respect of their occupational level, area of responsibility and university education.
