Among 1,295 children vaccinated with BCG during a 16-month period, 25 developed regional lymphadenopathy (BCGitis) for an incidence of 1.9 per cent. In half of the cases, the enlarged nodes progressed to suppuration, most often in infants. Different lots of BCG varied in their capability to induce BCGitis. Technic in administration did not ap pear to be related to this complication. Subsequent change from fluid to freeze-dried vaccine markedly reduced the incidence of BCGitis.
