This paper attempts to move outside the discourse of economic rationalism by understanding and analysing the politics of university reform in terms of the wider concept of ‘postmodernity’, with an emphasis on its modulation of the ‘informatisation’ of society and cyberspace. The paper examines the unified university system in terms of a politics centring on cybernetic control and discusses the status of and possibilities for the university in cyberspace.
