Abstract
Climate change is changing our world at a rate which increases every year. It is predicted that up to 35% of animal and plant species may be doomed to extinction by 2050. The proportion of the planet which man can inhabit is shrinking. The predictions are frightening; perhaps too frightening for individuals and governments to face up to them. GPs are already seeing, in a small way, the effects of climate change. The challenge to GPs is not just clinical; if they are to fulfil their duty to their patients, they will have to take on a wider role as advocates and activists.
