Abstract
Proper establishment of the percutaneous tract is the most important step in percutaneous nephrolithotomy. The tract dilation is a crucial part of this procedure and can be performed with three different basic techniques. We recently demonstrated that two of these techniques, the metal telescoping dilation and the balloon dilation, show no significant difference in morbidity related to the dilation procedure in a retrospective outcome analysis in a contemporary series of two European departments. 1
