Abstract
This summary of notable advances in basic and translational research in the thyroid field was presented at the 2024 Annual Meeting of the American Thyroid Association in Chicago.The selected publications discussed in the lecture represent a snapshot of the wide range of findings in the field made during the past year. Criteria for selection included originality, broad significance, and potential to provide mechanistic insights into understanding diseases of the thyroid gland and the functions of thyroid hormone on different tissues. The lecture also noted the indispensable place of basic research in yielding fundamental knowledge that may lead in the future to improved interventions as possible treatments for disease.
