Abstract
The 2014 American Thyroid Association (ATA) guidelines on thyroid nodules and differentiated thyroid cancer have several updates regarding the operative management of the disease, including refinements of the indications for partial or total thyroidectomy, and lymph node management. Dr. Julie Ann Sosa, a member of the task force, reviewed these changes in an ATA Satellite Symposium at the ICE/AACE Conference in June 2014. Here, she emphasizes the importance of multidisciplinary coordination of a strategy for the operative management of patients with thyroid cancer with the plan for adjuvant therapy and follow-up.
