Abstract
Longer-acting pre-exposure prophylaxis (LA PrEP) may trigger gender dysphoria in transgender and gender expansive (TGE) individuals and influence intentions to use it. This community-based participatory research project examined this relationship regarding three LA PrEP formulations. Overall, 513 TGE Texans responded to an online survey, and 410 were included in this analysis. Anticipated dysphoria was associated with lower intentions to use an annual implantable (β = −0.27, p < 0.001). Intentions to use a monthly oral and a bimonthly injectable were associated with gender identity. Including TGE individuals in the development of LA PrEP will improve uptake by identifying unique barriers.
