Abstract
Many men diagnosed with prostate cancer (PC) have non-aggressive, localized tumors that progress slowly over time. As a result, the use of active surveillance (AS) has grown in these men with low-risk tumors that are unlikely to rapidly progress, and about half of men newly diagnosed with PC are eligible for AS. Integrative medicine may offer men undertaking AS a number of evidence-based interventions that allow them to participate more fully in their own care. This article reviews the evidence basis for these interventions. This includes lifestyle change utilizing diet and exercise, and the use of targeted natural substances such as soy isoflavones, pomegranate, dietary omega 3 fatty acids, sulforaphane, medicinal mushrooms, and Vitamin D.
