Pain from injuries and sports-related activities are common causes for seeking health care. Auriculotherapy has been well-recognized as an appropriate way to address pain and sports-related injuries and to stimulate functional restoration of injured tissues. Common auriculotherapy, involving the “inverted fetus” presentation may yield marginal results in some patients who have pain and sports-related injuries, especially when dense tissue pathology occurs. Implementing the Nogier advanced auricular phase presentations will lead to improved outcomes.
The goal of this article is to enhance the understanding and the importance of advanced auricular phase projections, especially for cases of dense, degenerative pathologies. The historic discoveries by Paul Nogier, MD, and his colleagues are presented, specifically the advanced phase pathophysiologic presentations (Phase 2 and Phase 3), as projected on the external auricle. A modification of past designations of the phase presentations is presented to elucidate their role in pathologic expression, leading to enhanced clinical outcomes.
Advanced auriculotherapy, utilizing Nogier's advanced phases, has both sound historical bases as well as demonstrated enhanced clinical outcomes. This approach is a critical aspect of treatment for pain and sports-related injuries, especially those involving dense or degenerative tissue pathologies.
