Abstract
The Elimination Diet, as developed by the Institute for Functional Medicine®, is a short-term food plan used to identify triggers of symptoms by eliminating the most common foods that can cause inflammation and an immune response. Eliminating these foods eases the burden on the immune system, thus allowing repair and healing to occur throughout the body. This case report discusses the implementation of the Elimination Diet and its use in addressing underlying dysfunction in the first-line treatment of a multi-symptomatic 50-year-old female client. The subsequent reintroduction of particular foods and the implementation of a detoxification food plan for long-term maintenance are also discussed. Treatment outcomes throughout this nine-week program were symptom alleviation and improved nutrient intake.
