Abstract
Increasingly, studies suggest that the current approach to osteoporosis, involving large amounts of calcium and vitamin D, may not prevent osteoporosis but, instead, may increase the risk of cardiovascular problems and kidney stones. This article reviews research suggesting that appropriate amounts of essential fatty acids, especially in the form of α-linolenic acid, may be a better approach to improve both bone and cardiovascular health.
