Abstract

Moreland Hall provides services for patients with Drug and Alcohol disorders. We evaluated 90 patient admitted for detoxification to the Community Residential Withdrawal Unit. A high proportion of presented patients identified having associated Mental Health Morbidity. Substance use is relatively common among persons with Mental Illness. There is little high-quality evidence to guide practitioners in the treatment of these patients. Most studies indicated that detoxification for these individuals only possible in mental health settings. In recognition of this problem, Moreland Hall has developed a comprehensive approach that addresses the needs of Dually Diagnosed patients presenting to this service. Integrated treatment at the Residential drug withdrawal facilities has delivered management for mental illness and substance use disorder simultaneously. A team of clinicians were able to take the responsibility for both management of withdrawal symptoms and mental illness with a positive outcome.
