Abstract
The residual stresses in a component for automotive industry, a wheel hub made of composite material, are investigated. Forged AA6061 + Al2O3 hubs of identical shape and dimensions submitted to different thermal treatments are considered. The effects of T6 and T6-special treatments are compared. A reference forged sample without thermal treatments is also studied. Results are checked and compared with those previously obtained in simple shape demonstrators submitted to the same thermal treatments. Particular attention is given to the stresses along the radial and hoop directions, as they are expected to be critical for what concerns the in-service life of that component.
