Abstract
In September 1976 an un official publication made its first appearance in Poland. Called ‘Information Bulletin No. 1- Current Events' (a title which inevitably invites comparison With the well-known Soviet samizdat chronicle), it is intended to provide readers with information about events in the country which either go un reported or are distorted by the official media; and to help Polish citizens defend their legal rights against abuse by the authorities, which frequently benefit by their lack of knowledgeon the subject.
The first number gives a detailed account of the ‘events of 25 June’ at the Ursus Motor Works and at Radom, giving many instances of police brutality and of the infringement of defendants' rights at the subsequent trials. In one case the bulletin gives the names of the police officer swho took part in the arrests and beatings.
Below are a few excerpts from ‘Information Bulletin No. 1’.
