Bulgaria is something of an unknown quantity in the West: still a land of red wine and poisoned umbrella tips. Yet the Bulgarian government has high hopes that tourism will boost the country's economy. Whether or not their expectations are realistic, and save for a few gaps in the narrative, there is historical splendour and natural beauty in abundance
