Abstract

Three events in February challenged Israel's preferred role as lone victim in a sea of Arab troubles: first, an admission in the Knesset that Israel possesses nuclear weapons; second, the declassification of a report that found widespread torture of Palestinians during the Intifada; third, the revelation that Israel's claim to be fighting terrorism in South Lebanon not only conflicts with the evidence, but has lost support at home
