Rapid advances in Information Technology and the increasing use of the Internet introduce a completely new vehicle for the dissemination of information on medicinal products that is not limited to regulators or health practitioners, but accessible to everybody. This paper presents the Medicines Information Network for Europe (MINE) system, a network based application aimed at establishing a coherent, comprehensive European Data Centre for collecting and making available accurate and up-to-date official information about medicinal products authorised in the European Union.
