Abstract
There are reports in literature that cutaneous ulceration is one of the major complications after cochlear implantation. 1-4 In the case of cutaneous ulceration, several types of skin flaps have been reported in the literature to heal the wound and cover the exposed receiver-stimulator device. In this study 2 patients with exposure of their receiver-stimulator devices were reported. Both patients had diabetes mellitus, and 1 patient had a ventricular-peritoneal shunt on the side of implantation. Because both patients had some risk factors associated with wound healing, we used large rotation skin flaps to cover the exposed device. The progress being made with the patients and the surgical technique is discussed.
