Blastomycosis is an uncommon disease caused by the dimorphic fungus Blastomyces dermatitidis. It is endemic to the central United States, especially the watersheds of the Mississippi, Missouri, and Ohio rivers. The clinical presentation of this disease often mimics that of malignancy, so a high index of suspicion must be present to avoid misdiagnosis.
