[ABSTRACT: It has long been recognized that the use of conflict strategies can be both effective and destructive. To take advantage of the former quality while minimizing the latter requires an understanding of the dynamics of con flict. This article attempts to develop a paradigm for intersocial system conflict to contribute to this understanding. While the paradigm does not provide an exhaustive understanding of the phenomenon, it does offer a systematic approach which produces some immediate insights and offers the potential of extending this understanding through further elaboration of the paradigm.]
