Submission guidelines

The journal consists of commissioned review articles. Freely submitted articles are not accepted for publication.  However, the Editorial Board welcomes suggestions for topics based on a need to establish an international consensus on matters relating to radiation units and measurements.  The review articles are written and published in the form of reports (generally, one every year).  Once the subject of a review has been approved by the ICRU Commission, ICRU Sponsors are assigned (members of ICRU with expertise in the report's subject) and report Chair(s) and authors are commissioned.  The commissioned authors must regularly report on the ongoing progress of the review. The ICRU Sponsors oversee the process and ensure that quantities, units, definitions and nomenclature are consistent with ICRU guidelines. Eight months after the initial approval, the Editorial Board evaluates the existing draft, and a lecture-style presentation on the main content of the report is given by the report Chair. Suggestions for improvement are presented to the authors. Six months later, the draft must be completed and presented to the Editorial Board, in person by the Chair, and the content is analyzed in detail. After the Editorial Board’s corrections are adopted, the draft is peer-reviewed by three or more subject experts external to ICRU. After their suggestions have been responded to and integrated into the review, all Editorial Board members review the final draft and vote to accept/modify/reject. Unanimous approval is required before a final decision is reached. The Chair of the ICRU Commission makes the final decision in consultation with the Scientific Editor and Editorial Board.
